savvy_VinoVoloA few weeks ago, I was introduced to a wine bar by the name of Vino Volo.  I was long overdue to meet up with a colleague so after checking out their website, I figured that would be a great place to meet.

As someone who frequents DC for restaurants and nightlife, I had a little bit of trouble finding it in its Bethesda Row location.  Since Bethesda Row is a burgeoning hot spot for those in the ‘burbs of upper NW DC, Bethesda, and Chevy Chase, parking was a little challenging but I was able to find a prime space after circling around for a few minutes.

Vino Volo is located on a block neighbored by Mon Ami Gabi (the French restaurant chain) and an intriguing looking Olive Oil shop that I need to visit soon.  I pulled open the heavy doors that led into the wine bar.  It was a quaint space with a larger bar than I had expected.

Since my colleague wasn’t there yet, I walked over to the wine room where they had quite a collection of wines.  They had a variety of domestic and international including reds, whites, rosés and a few sparkling options.  I was immediately greeted by extremely friendly staff person who told me all about Vino Volo and asked me if I was looking for anything in particular.  I ended up walking around for a while checking out the assorted wines then decided to have a seat.

After checking out the menu while waiting, I decided I would try one of their wine flights.  Each of the bartenders, they were more like sommeliers-in-training, were very knowledgeable on the wine choices and did their part to ensure we selected something that would be to our liking.

Overall, I was thoroughly impressed.  Since they are a wine bar, the menu is minimal (Read: Don’t go hungry) but I will say their truffle popcorn was a nice treat along with my glasses of wine.
